The doors of Southampton’s newest ‘Hometel’ Room 2, and one of Tile Fire’s latest clients, have recently opened!
The new Room 2 Hometel prides itself on offering a designer hotel for the modern traveler, with home comforts including kitchens, rainfall showers and air conditioning. Formerly an office building from the 1990’s, it has been transformed into a modern design to suit the existing building fabric, while retaining the essence of the Room2 brand. It has 71 studio rooms, and is operated by the Lamington Group, who operate a large portfolio of short term rental apartments across London.
Tile Fire were given the honour of producing 1000SqM of bespoke tiles for the Hometel, including both wall and floor tiles for use across common areas and every bathroom. Andrew Cousins, Director of Tile Fire says, “It’s a great project for us and one which suits our expertise. Over the last few years we’ve worked on a number of high volume hospitality projects including work for the Hoxton Hotel group and Nando’s. Working with the hospitality industry always has its challenges, everyone always needs everything yesterday!”
Room2 has been designed by Project Orange, a Shoreditch based architectural and interior design firm. Taking advantage of the large floor to ceiling heights, the designs have took inspiration from Southampton’s cruise lining history, adopting mezzanine decks, and the bold graphic colouring of the Cunard Liner.
“Having our tiles be in such prominent positions where every customer can see them made this a great project for us to be involved with. Being able to work with the amazing team at Project Orange was a brilliant experience.”
