custom shapes & printed tiles for Aston villa’s new club shop
In 2024 Aston Villa Football Club celebrated their 150th anniversary. One of the ways they marked the occasion was by opening their newly fitted out club shop.
Aston Villa invited special guest Sharon Osborne to open the new store.

The centre piece of the new store was a brick lion statue sat on a large decorative tiled plinth. Each brick of the lion is engraved with the name of every player to captain the club
In early summer 2024, Tile Fire were contacted by contractors JKC who specialise in retail store fit outs. They had been looking for a company for some months to help create the bespoke tiled plinth base for the revamped Villa store.
JKC had some draft plans of the plinth base for the retail store fit out. We worked together to find a solution to achieve the desired look and to be produced within the short lead-time before the August 2024 opening date. Tiled Fire created visuals of the design before they were signed off and given the go ahead for production!
The large plinth base is a cylindrical design sitting 40cm high and 240 cm wide. Upon which sits the brick lion statue.
The plinth sides are decorated with custom printed 50x50mm mosaic tiles in the recognisable Aston Villa claret and gold crest.
The plinth top was the complicated part!
The top of sculpture’s base was an intricate pattern made up of custom shape cut tiles, printed in the iconic Villa colours. Tile Fire waterjet cut the shaped tiles from large ceramic tiles, into curves, triangles and geometric shapes; all perfectly cut to fit together like a giant jigsaw! The tiles were then decorated ceramic decals in the Villa colours and finished with bold black outlines. The design has a lovely stained glass window feel about it.
Both the customs mosaic tiles and ceramic plinth top tiles were re-fired in a kiln, so the colours are now permanent and will not fade. Perfect for a the bright lights of the refurbished Villa club shop!
